In a meeting today, all members of the ECPM board agreed that Valeriu Ghilețchi, president of the party since 2022, will be our lead candidate for the European Commission post following the elections in June 2024.

Mr. Ghilețchi is an experienced politician, having served as member of the Moldovan Parliament and as member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) from 2011 to 2019. He founded and chairs the Integrity in Leadership Academy (AIC), is a pastor and public figure.

Most European political parties are appointing lead candidates who will face each other in several debates: one in Maastricht and another one broadcast by the Eurovision platform. They will have the chance to talk about their expertise, to present their party's manifesto and profile and to encourage people to go out and vote in the 6-9 June elections. Depending on the votes and the seats Groups will earn in the European Parliament, the Group with most seats will appoint the head of the Commission.
