ECPM MEP Skripek condemns Turkish military invasion in Northern Syria

In a joint statement of the Chaldeans-Syriacs-Assyrians Friendship Group (F-CSA), the members declare they condemn the Turkish military invasion in Northern Syria, notably in the region of Afrin.

ECPM MEP Skripek is co-chair of the Friendship Group, which has members from the ECR, EPP, S&D and the Greens/EFA. "With worries and disapproval we have been observing current steps of the Turkish government towards its southern neighbour," the statement reads. "Turkish government and military representatives pose serious threat to the democratic process that had already started in the Federation of Northern Syria. Turkey is not fighting a military enemy but causing destruction and death of civilians."

The group states they "condemn the Turkish invasion of Afrin and the Turkish failure to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2401 and calls to Turkey to end the invasion immediately and to return the Turkish army to Turkey". Urging for action, the F-CSA ends it statement by calling for the EU High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy "to take actions and make every effort to stop Turkey from any further step in the Middle East that are not in compliance with international law and European values of peace, justice and human rights."
