Trafficking in human beings

The overall goal of the project is to provide students with special knowledge in the field of human trafficking to be qualified to identify and raise awareness about human trafficking in their community as future professionals. Also, the objective of the project is prevention of human trafficking and investment in future professionals to provide support to victims of trafficking.


Programme


The entire conference was organized as a radio show led by two journalists with experts who were hosted in the show with recorded confessions of victims which were interpreted by two actresses and comments by other experts.

In Serbia, as a country that qualifies as a country of origin, transit and destination when it comes to trafficking in human beings, children, women and men, it is traded for sexual and labor exploitation, coercion to commit crimes, forced begging and forced marriages. Although among the identified victims most of our citizens are still one of the biggest prejudices that this is not happening in our country.

Objective of the Conference:

The aim of the Conference was to raise awareness of trafficking in human beings and to acquire new knowledge and skills in the trafficking in human beings from distinguished lecturers and experts who are daily facing this problem.

The conference was held on November 15, 2018 in the EĐŠEG - cultural station (restaurai castle, Antona Čehova 4, Novi Sad).

Total participants at the conference: 75 participants (students, professionals, employees and associates of NGO and institutions member of the Local Network for the Fight against Trafficking in Human Beings, representatives of the French Embassy in Serbia, representatives of the Social Democratic Party of Serbia, etc.).

Agenda and course of the conference 

Informal group "Freedom has no price", through another project financed by the Ministry of Culture and Information Serbia recorded and realized six radio show which explaining the phenomenon and the criminal offense of trafficking in human beings. Radio show were broadcast within the existing radio show "Woman in a Box" which have focus on womans right. Radio shows were recorded and broadcast on a radio station with a national frequency (Radio Television of Vojvodina, Radio Novi Sad). This format contributed to the greater interactivity and modernization of the conference, and at the same time, this model has increased the quality of the conference, given that students had the opportunity to hear a large number of experts in addition to those who participated as speakers at the conference, because their statements were recorded as part of the radio show.

At the beginning of the Conference, representatives of the Informal Youth Group "Freedom has no price", IFES Serbia, OPENS and European Christian Political Movement welcomed all the attendees and emphasized the importance of organizing this conference.

On the first panel of the conference, the topic was Legal regulations of trafficking in human beings and reality in Serbia. The main topic of the first panel was trafficking in human beings in the Republic of Serbia, the legal framework and the state's response to the problem of trafficking in human beings. Speakers on the first panel were:

After the break for coffee, the agenda of the conference continued.

The second panel discussed the protection of victims of human trafficking in the Republic of Serbia. Speakers on the first panel were:

All the topics covered for the conference were processed in the envisaged scope and within the given agenda. The agenda of the conference is attached to the report. In terms of the number of questions and interest of the participants in the conversation with the lecturers, it can be seen that the topic was very welcoming and that we managed to animate the participants and encourage us to think about this topic.

Social networking announcements were highly visible (the album with photos of the conference had 194 likes and over 1558 people had seen the publication; FB: @SlobodaNemaCenuSNC).

The Blue Heart campaign was promoted at the conference. The promotional material was marked with a blue sign symbolizing the fight against human trafficking, as well as the logo of all donors. Even at the catering, sweet donuts, a blue heart was drawn as a symbol of the fight against trafficking.

All promotional material was purchased from young women entrepreneurs, which gave us a unique promotional material, but in this way they also supported female entrepreneurship, which is one of the best ways to prevent trafficking in persons and violence against women in general.

Follow up:

After the conference, the project team was invited to a meeting of the Local Anti-Trafficking Team to which were present and representatives of 6 other local teams from other cities. This team recognized our conference as an example of good practice and expressed the desire to organized conferences in other cities. This has opened up a new channel for cooperation for our organization and we are now considering models for future cooperation.
