On the 2nd of April, Peter van Dalen officially opened the public exhibition: “The Global Impact of the Bible”, a joint initiative between the British & Foreign Bible Society and the French Bible Society, with the support of ECPM and most political groups of the European Parliament (EPP, ECR, Greens, ALDE, EFD, S&D), and hosted by MEP Peter van Dalen,(ECR/ECPM).
Written at the crossroads between the East and the West, the Bible has had a strong influence on European and global culture. Today, the influence of the Bible can be found in numerous areas - art, advertising, law, the calendar, language, medicine, education, politics and so on – yet the cultures have lost sight of the rich origins of what shaped them.
During the opening MEP’s Alosz Peterle (EPP), Sari Essayah (EPP), Marian Harkin (ALDE), Hiltrud Breyer (Greens), and Ewald Stadler (NI) gave a short address about the relevance of the Bible in today’s Europe and expressed their enthusiasm about the exposition which is the first of its kind in the European Parliament. On behalf of ECPM, vice-President George Rukhadze shortly addressed the relevance of the Bible in today´s Europe during his contribution.
ECPM was honored to be a co-host of this wonderful exposition and hopes that many national parliaments will follow the example of the European Parliament.
