Combating human trafficking is one of the spearheads of the European Christian Political Movement. It is an international problem that needs a common European strategy in order to be dealt with effectively. The ECPM candidates for the coming European elections are motivated to fight this battle in the European Parliament. However, it is not only the politicians who can make a difference. You can make a difference.
Stieneke van der Graaf, ECPM board member and candidate for EP elections:
“Human trafficking requests an approach at the European level because it happens also within the borders of the European Union! According to the United Nations there are 140.000 victims of human trafficking in Europe, most of the time leading to sexual exploitation. Many of them are female. This number increases every year with tens of thousands.”
Several organizations are active in combating human trafficking and all over Europe campaigns are being started to create awareness and put forward measures to fight modern day slavery. ECPM is not only a European political party, it is first of all a movement. Therefore we urge you to get involved in the fight against modern day slavery as well!

This happens today, not a few centuries ago when slavery was permitted but today. In fact, some statistics say that every 30 seconds a person is forced into slavery. This means that by the time you finish reading this article at least one sister, daughter or mother, has been taken away from her loved ones and forced into a life she didn’t dream of but dreaded.
